‘Tokyo triple gold medalist’ Ansan left a congratulatory comment on ‘Paris triple gold medalist’ Im Si-hyun’s Instagram, only to be met with a barrage of malicious comments.
On the 5th, Im Si-hyun posted a photo of his gold medal on his Instagram and shared, “My first Olympics have ended. Only now do I realize how difficult and challenging it is to participate in the Olympics and feel the weight of this position.” He continued, “I believe it was possible because we were not alone but together,” and added, “Based on this Olympic experience, I will continue to grow as an archer. Thank you for supporting my efforts.”
In response, Ansan commented, “Congrats, Naemssippung. Come quickly and let’s hang out. I miss you.”
Most netizens reacted warmly to the friendship between the two, saying things like, “Friendship between two triple gold medalists,” “Cheering for the friendship of these two athletes,” “World-class line is insane,” “Please post a selfie too,” and “I want to be crazily connected with both of them.”
However, one netizen started a wave of malicious comments by writing, “kkil-kkipappa (join when you should, leave when you should).” Some netizens criticized Ansan, claiming she previously had a short haircut and used expressions from male-hating communities. Ansan had previously been embroiled in an online ‘feminism controversy’ over her short haircut and related issues.
In response, Ansan herself asked, “Please don’t do this on Si-hyun’s post.” Im Si-hyun also tried to calm the situation by saying, “Everyone, I’m so happy that my long-awaited Olympics ended well. Please don’t fight and let’s smile together,” but the debate is still ongoing.
Ansan, who won three gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics, was not selected for this year’s Paris Olympic team. She was eliminated after ranking 21st out of 24 in the third national team selection round last March.
