A survey revealed that divorced men and women (돌싱, returned singles) have completely opposite views on restraining air conditioner use to save electricity during summer. Men thought their wives were "thrifty," while women thought their husbands were "stingy."
Remarriage information company Only-U and marriage information company Bianarae announced the results of a survey conducted on June 5 targeting 546 nationwide divorced men and women (273 men and 273 women) hoping for (twilight) remarriage. The survey asked, "What do you think if your spouse restrains air conditioner use to save electricity after remarriage?"
Among men, 42.1% answered "thrifty," the highest proportion, followed by "patient" at 36.6%, "penny wise and pound foolish" at 14.7%, and "stingy" at 6.6%. On the other hand, among women, 41% answered "stingy," the highest, followed by "penny wise and pound foolish" at 28.9%, "patient" at 19.1%, and "thrifty" at 11%.
When seeing their spouse restrain air conditioner use, 78.7% of men thought positively, such as "thrifty" or "patient," whereas 69.9% of women evaluated it negatively, such as "penny wise and pound foolish" or "stingy," showing completely opposite responses between men and women.
Only-U and Bianarae also conducted a survey on the topic, "What methods would you mainly use to overcome the summer heat at home after remarriage?" As a result, 30.8% of male respondents chose air conditioners, and 43.2% chose fans, while 39.2% of female respondents chose air conditioners, and 35.2% chose fans. Relatively, women chose air conditioners more than men.
Son Dong-gyu, CEO of Only-U, explained, "Many remarried couples, especially those over 50, still tend to have men responsible for household finances. Therefore, men want spouses who are economically conscious, while women often focus on living more comfortably and abundantly."
This survey was conducted from May 29 to June 3 via email and phone, targeting 546 nationwide divorced men and women (273 men and 273 women) hoping for (twilight) remarriage.
