Payment Surge of 435% Compared to Average Just Before Crisis on 'Timep'

Daily Payment Amount Surges... Impact of Large-Scale Promotion

It has been revealed that the payment amounts surged sharply just before the settlement delay incident occurred on the e-commerce platforms Tmon and Wemakeprice. This was due to large-scale promotions, raising concerns that the sharply increased payment amounts could directly result in damages to sellers and consumers.

On the 31st, big data company IGAWorks released a report titled 'Tmon·Wemakeprice Daily Card Payment Combined Amount.' This data represents estimated credit and debit card payment amounts, which are not actual sales figures but show the overall trend.

What stands out in the data is July 6. On this day, the combined daily card payment amount for Tmon and Wemakeprice was approximately 89.7 billion KRW. This is about 435% higher compared to the average daily payment amount from June 17 to 30. The reason for this surge in payment amounts was the impact of large-scale promotions. Tmon held the ‘Tmon Monster Mega Sale’ from July 1 to 14, while Wemakeprice ran ‘Wemakeprice Day’ from July 1 to 12.

Subsequently, on the 7th, the settlement delay incident began at Wemakeprice, and the payment amounts on Wemakeprice steadily decreased. By the 23rd, it had dropped to around 1 billion KRW, which is one fourteenth of the 14.1 billion KRW recorded on the 6th. Similarly, Tmon’s payment amount peaked at 75.5 billion KRW on the 6th but plummeted to about 1.8 billion KRW on the 23rd. These figures demonstrate that due to this incident, Tmon and Wemakeprice have reached a state where they cannot resolve the issues through profits and cash flow generated by their own business operations.
