The main inspection items include ▲false (fraudulent or confusing) origin labeling ▲no origin labeling ▲violation of origin labeling methods.
As the possibility of origin labeling violations increases during the vacation season, the city plans to focus guidance and inspections on about 30 locations, including traditional markets, medium and large supermarkets, and street vendors.
In particular, in vulnerable areas for origin labeling such as traditional markets, origin labeling boards will be distributed, and promotional activities will be carried out simultaneously to strengthen awareness of origin labeling and establish the system.
A city official said, “Through this guidance and inspection, we will establish a transparent distribution order and do our best to ensure that consumers can purchase seafood with confidence during the summer vacation season.”
Meanwhile, those who fail to label the origin of seafood will be fined between 50,000 KRW and 10 million KRW, and those who falsify or damage the origin labeling for the purpose of confusion may face imprisonment of up to 7 years or a fine of up to 100 million KRW.
