Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok said on the 21st regarding the investigation process of First Lady Kim Geon-hee, "The principle of an investigation without sanctuary, which I emphasized from the beginning of my tenure, was not upheld," adding, "It is all my responsibility. I apologize to the people."

On the morning of the same day, Prosecutor General Lee made these remarks to reporters while on his way to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-dong, Seoul.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, which is investigating the case in which First Lady Kim was accused, conducted a face-to-face investigation with her at a third location on the 20th without prior notice to Prosecutor General Lee, sparking controversy over bypassing the Prosecutor General.
