Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on the 16th that it will actively promote campaigns to create a safe environment for the use of personal mobility devices (PM), such as electric scooters, and to establish proper parking order.
Personal mobility devices are convenient means of transportation, but since many users operate them without being aware of essential safety regulations?such as holding a license for those aged 16 and over and wearing protective gear?they are constantly exposed to the risk of accidents.
Furthermore, due to the nature of PMs, which allow for free rental and return, improper parking can cause inconvenience to pedestrians and increase the risk of accidents from abandoned devices, making user safety awareness crucial.
In response, the county has begun active promotional efforts, such as distributing leaflets to each village that include safety rules and no-parking zones that users must follow to ensure safe PM usage and prevent accidents.
To create a safe pedestrian environment and parking order, the county installed 10 on-street parking facilities for personal mobility devices as a pilot project in April and plans to expand the facilities according to future demand.
A Gijang-gun official said, "We ask for the active cooperation of all residents so that a safe and orderly culture of using personal mobility devices can take root."
