Hong Sunghyun, Chairman of the Chungnam Provincial Council: "Partial Independence in Personnel Authority... Local Council Act Needed"

Chungnam Provincial Council Chairman Hong Seonghyun emphasized the need to enact the Local Council Act at the 354th extraordinary session held on the 16th. / Chungnam Provincial Council

Hong Seonghyeon, the 12th Chairperson of the Chungnam Provincial Council, emphasized the necessity of enacting the Local Council Act.

During the 354th extraordinary session held on the 16th, Chairperson Hong pointed out, "Even with the enactment of the Local Autonomy Act in 2020 and 2023, local councils have not been sufficiently guaranteed the necessary authority and autonomy," adding, "With only partial independence in personnel authority, local councils are unable to proactively resolve community issues."

He further stated, "To address local issues quickly and accurately, the Local Council Act must be established, and the Local Organization System Improvement Task Force should produce reasonable reform measures," demanding organizations and authority befitting metropolitan councils.

In addition, Chairperson Hong urged public officials to do their utmost to overcome difficult crises by pursuing structural reforms in agriculture and rural areas, transitioning away from coal energy, and preparing measures to overcome low birth rates.
