CJ CheilJedang's Bibigo has solidified its position once again as a 'representative brand of K-food globalization' by launching the first-ever standalone store for a processed food brand within duty-free shops.
On the 16th, CJ CheilJedang announced that it has opened standalone Bibigo stores consecutively at Shinsegae Duty Free and Shilla Duty Free in Terminal 1 of Incheon International Airport. By the end of this year, it plans to expand its presence by entering Shilla and Shinsegae Duty Free shops located in Terminal 2, increasing contact points with global consumers.
This opening marks the first case in the duty-free industry, which mainly features luxury goods and cosmetics, to grant a standalone store to a processed food brand. Recognizing the rising status of K-food, the duty-free shops entrusted operations to Bibigo, which took the lead in pioneering the global market. The initial response has been enthusiastic, with sales at Bibigo stores in both duty-free shops reaching twice the expected figures.
CJ CheilJedang arranged the displays focusing on products most frequently purchased by foreign tourists visiting Korea as souvenirs, such as gim (seaweed) and kimchi, and introduced duty-free exclusive K-food gift sets. These include the 'Bibigo Gimbap Kit,' which allows customers to make gimbap themselves with items like gimbap gim and Hetbahn Sotbap (cooked rice), and the 'Bibigo Kimchi Gift Set,' featuring various types of kimchi. Additionally, limited edition 'BibigoXWootteo' tteokbokki, bungeoppang, and mandu products created in collaboration with HYBE are sold. Wootteo is a character created by Jin of BTS.
Kim Bobae, Bibigo Brand Manager at CJ CheilJedang, said, “We will establish Bibigo stores as a must-visit place for foreign tourists to experience Korean culture before departure,” adding, “We will continue to make efforts for the globalization of K-food.”
