Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) received the Excellence Award at the '2024 Outstanding Administration and Policy Case Selection Competition' hosted by the Korea Public Policy Evaluation Association.
The Outstanding Administration and Policy Case Selection Competition, held on the 12th at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, annually selects and awards administrative cases that have contributed to national development and the improvement of citizens' quality of life, targeting government ministries, local governments, and public institutions.
Participating in the competition for the first time this year, Gwangjin-gu achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Excellence Award in the nationwide basic local government category with the policy case of 'Resolving a 30-year chronic civil complaint, street vendor regulation based on principles without physical conflict.'
Since the launch of the 8th elected term, Gwangjin-gu has regulated a total of 88 street vendor locations over the past two years. In particular, the regulation of 60 locations around Gangbyeon Station without physical conflict through continuous communication with street vendor operators was recognized as a representative result of communicative administration.
The district is promoting the improvement of the pedestrian environment after regulating illegal street vendors and operates a street vendor permit system within a minimal scope for livelihood-based operators among the removed vendors, implementing policies for both pedestrian safety and coexistence with street vendors.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “This award is the result of the joint efforts of Gwangjin-gu and its citizens to create a safe and convenient pedestrian environment. We will continue to engage in constant dialogue and persuasion based on principled street vendor policies to regulate illegal street vendors in the region.”
