On the morning of the 24th, after concluding the Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, Lee held a press conference and said, "I have just resigned from the position of party leader following the Supreme Council meeting," adding, "It has been a short or long time, but thanks to the cooperation of the Supreme Council members and the dedication of party officials, I have safely completed my term."

Lee stated, "The livelihood of the people is difficult, and the economy is also struggling," and added, "At this very moment, with warning shots being fired in the Demilitarized Zone, it would not be surprising if a war broke out, as security on the Korean Peninsula is also unstable." He further said, "As one of the politicians responsible for the politics of the Republic of Korea, I feel a deep sense of responsibility and remorse."

He also hinted at seeking re-election as party leader. Lee said, "In the face of the enormous crisis confronting the people and the country, I will deeply contemplate what path the Democratic Party and I, Lee Jae-myung, should take," and added, "I will make a decision on my future after a brief period of reflection."

Following Lee's resignation, Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, will act as the interim party leader.
