<em>Seohae Coast Guard Agency</em> Holds Marine Climate Change Research and Related Agencies Policy Forum

Sharing Information and Knowledge for Accident Prevention and Response to Marine Climate Change

The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Commissioner Kim Inchang) announced on the 19th that it held a policy forum on the 18th, bringing together research and related organizations to prevent and respond to maritime accidents caused by marine climate change.


Participants included △Chonnam National University △Kunsan National University △Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries △Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) △National Institute of Fisheries Science △National Oceanographic Research Institute △Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration △Uldolmok Tidal Power Plant △Korea Offshore Wind Power △Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority △National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives △Small and Medium Shipbuilding Research Institute, who shared opinions under the theme of marine climate change and seeking our direction for a safe and clean sea of hope.


At the policy forum, the outlook on marine climate and ecosystem changes from research institutions and policies and systems of related organizations to respond to these changes were mutually shared, and discussions were held on the direction the Coast Guard should take.

The topics included △Climate change outlook for Korea’s coastal and nearshore waters △Marine climate prediction models using KIOST observation platforms △Advanced strategies for proactive maritime accident prevention △Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ response strategies to marine climate change △Risk response measures for marine ecosystems due to climate change △The role of the Coast Guard in accident prevention amid environmental changes.


Kim Inchang, Commissioner of the West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency, stated, “In order to nurture a safe and clean sea of hope amid the marine climate crisis, it is necessary to deeply consider what the public demands, and we will listen carefully to the opinions of the attending experts and do our best in accident prevention and response.”


A participant in the policy forum said, “It was a very meaningful occasion just to have various organizations gathered in one place on the theme of marine climate and environment, and we hope that the content from research and related institutions will greatly help the Coast Guard in its safety and prevention activities in the future.”
