Child sex offender Jo Doo-soon, who was sentenced to prison for violating the nighttime outing restriction order, was reported to have been released after serving 19 days. His sentence was 3 months in prison.

The Chosun Ilbo reported that Jo Doo-soon completed his sentence and was released at around 8:05 a.m. that day. At the time of his release, the police reportedly took additional measures such as attaching an electronic device to him.

Previously, Jo Doo-soon was accused of violating the "no nighttime outings after 9 p.m." order on December 4 of last year at around 9:05 p.m. by going out for about 40 minutes outside his residence in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. It was also reported that he walked from the front door of his residential building on the first floor to a security post located about 6 to 7 meters away and spoke to two police officers on duty.

Earlier, the first trial court sentenced Jo Doo-soon to 3 months in prison and ordered his detention in court on March 20. At that time, the court stated, "The imposition of compliance requirements on those wearing electronic devices is to protect the public from crime," and "Even a single violation cannot be taken lightly." Both the prosecution and Jo Doo-soon appealed, but on the 29th of last month, the second trial court dismissed both appeals and upheld the original verdict.

Jo Doo-soon was sentenced to 12 years in prison for kidnapping, sexually assaulting, and seriously injuring a third-grade elementary school girl in a church building restroom in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, in December 2008. The court also ordered him to wear an electronic device for 7 years and to have his identity disclosed for 5 years.

After serving his sentence, he was released on December 12, 2020, and has since been living at his home in Ansan. His whereabouts became known, sparking intense opposition in the Ansan community. At that time, Ansan Mayor Yoon Hwa-seop proposed the so-called "Jo Doo-soon Isolation Act." The core of this bill was to isolate and detain Jo Doo-soon in a separate facility after his release, and former Mayor Yoon posted a petition on the Blue House website containing these details.

Meanwhile, the victim's family, who lived in Ansan, appeared on JTBC's "Newsroom" and appealed, saying, "The child broke down in tears after 12 years," and expressed their intention to leave Ansan to avoid Jo Doo-soon.
