Japanese Government to Fully Lift Floppy Disk Usage Restrictions by the End of This Month

The Japanese government will completely abolish regulations requiring the use of floppy disks by the end of this month.

According to the Korea Data Industry Promotion Agency and Mainichi reports, Taro Kono, Japan's Digital Minister, announced on the 14th that the government will eliminate regulations requiring the use of floppy disks in administrative procedures by the end of this month.

This is part of Minister Kono's strategy to abolish analog regulations, which he has been promoting since his appointment in August 2022.

He stated that administrative procedures legally requiring submission via floppy disks will soon be completely abolished. Out of a total of 1,034 regulations requiring floppy disk submissions, 1,033 have been abolished, and the remaining one is reportedly undergoing revision procedures at the Ministry of the Environment.

At a press conference, Minister Kono said, "It will be completed within this month," and added, "We will also proceed with revising outdated analog regulations such as the abolition of fax procedures."
