The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is expanding its pilot project for the ‘Education Development Special Zone.’

The Education Development Special Zone is a project where local governments, education offices, universities, businesses, and public institutions collaborate to comprehensively support regional educational innovation and the nurturing of local talent within the framework of balanced regional development. Its goal is to create a virtuous cycle ecosystem where talents educated locally can settle in the region.

Following the designation of three areas?Goyang, Dongducheon, and Yangju?as the first pilot Education Development Special Zones in February, the Office recently announced on the 19th plans to additionally conduct pilot projects in five more areas: Gimpo, Paju, Pocheon, Gapyeong, and Yeoncheon.

The Office has formed a task force to cooperate with these five cities and counties and will support the discovery of customized models for the Education Development Special Zone.

Regarding the Education Development Special Zones by region: ▲ Paju, where locally nurtured talents foster the region ▲ Gimpo, a glocal future education city with customized education and care where people want to live ▲ Edu-In-Pocheon, opening a happier future with greater Pocheon education! ▲ Gapyeong, a bright future plus ▲ Yeoncheon, realizing a customized local era through the connection of education and local industry.

Seo Hye-jeong, Policy Planning Officer at the Office of Education, stated, "We will do our best to support the five cities and counties until the application deadline on the 30th for the second pilot area, so that public education can innovate regional education and invigorate the local settlement ecosystem."
