The People Power Party has finalized the rules for the upcoming party convention next month, setting the party members' vote at 80% and the public opinion at 20%. The rules will be finalized after approval by the Standing National Committee and the National Committee.
Senior Spokesperson Kim Min-jeon said on the 13th at the central party office in Yeouido, Seoul, after a meeting of the Emergency Response Committee, "We have finalized the ratio of party members to public opinion at 8:2," adding, "The biggest issue is how to reflect public opinion, but aside from opinion polls, there is no suitable method currently available, so we decided on 8:2."
The People Power Party will hold the Standing National Committee and National Committee meetings on the 19th to decide the rules through an online vote. The registration date for party representative candidates has not yet been decided.
Meanwhile, former Emergency Response Committee member Han Dong-hoon is reported to have recently met with close allies inside and outside the National Assembly, fueling speculation that his bid for party leadership is entering the final countdown. Han is known to be forming a campaign team to prepare for the party convention. The decision by the People Power Party’s Special Committee on Party Constitution and Rules to maintain a single leadership system, granting full authority to the newly elected party leader, is also interpreted as influencing Han’s decision to run.
Other potential candidates for party leadership, including lawmakers Na Kyung-won, Yoon Sang-hyun, Ahn Cheol-soo, and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, are expanding their activities through forums, seminars, and interviews, but have not officially declared their candidacies. Lawmaker Na said in a phone call that day, "I will consider it once the official announcement is made," showing a cautious stance. Former lawmaker Yoo also refrained from confirming his decision to run, saying, "I have not decided yet."
