The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kang Eunhee) held the "2024 Love for the Nation Handprint Taegeukgi 1 Million Challenge" at 1 p.m. on the 12th at the Office of Education's Haengbok Hall, with Superintendent Kang Eunhee and staff participating. The event aimed to foster patriotism, strengthen a sense of community, and encourage everyday acts of love for the nation.
The "Love for the Nation Handprint Taegeukgi 1 Million Challenge," organized by the Korea National Studies Institute, is a national flag performance in which participants complete a giant Taegeukgi by stamping their handprints. The challenge aims to involve one million participants and is currently attempting to set a Guinness World Record. This is the first year the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education is participating in the challenge.

Through this, participants are encouraged to reflect on the meaning and value of the Taegeukgi, a national symbol, and to foster a sense of identity and pride as citizens of the Republic of Korea through the flag’s symbolism and history.
Meanwhile, in commemoration of Patriots and Veterans Month in June, the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education is organizing various events such as the special Love for the Nation program at the Daegu Democratic Citizenship Education Center, the Handprint Taegeukgi 1 Million Challenge, and the delivery of appreciation gifts to student volunteer soldiers. These events are intended to honor the significance of Patriots and Veterans Month and to express respect and gratitude for the noble sacrifices and dedication of the nation’s forebears.
Kang Eunhee, Superintendent of Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "We will continue to support participation- and experience-centered education for love of the nation so that future generations can remember the history of national defense safeguarded by the sacrifices and dedication of our ancestors, and develop sound values and awareness of patriotism."
