Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it is recruiting participants for the "Nowon Children Native English Camp" and the "Nowon Youth Science Camp" to celebrate the summer vacation.

The district plans to operate intensive programs to provide high-quality learning opportunities to nurture global and creative future talents, while also reducing the childcare and private education burdens on parents.

First, the "Nowon Children Native English Camp" is targeted at elementary school students in grades 3 to 6. From June 17 to July 1, 160 participants per session, totaling 320 (281 general students and 39 students from socially disadvantaged families), will be recruited through the district office website.

The camp is divided into two sessions: the first session from July 28 to August 4, and the second session from August 11 to 18. Participants will stay for 7 nights and 8 days in dormitories at Sahmyook University’s lecture halls, gymnasium, and dormitories, living exclusively in English 24 hours a day, providing an effect similar to studying abroad.

Classes are organized into a total of 8 groups based on level tests, with one native English teacher and one assistant teacher, both professionally qualified and experienced, assigned to each group. The program is designed to help children acquire practical English naturally and easily through special activities such as games, so they do not develop a fear of English.

The participation cost for the English camp is 920,000 KRW per person, of which general students pay 440,000 KRW, and the district covers the remaining 480,000 KRW. However, students from socially disadvantaged families receive full support from the district for the participation fee.

After the recruitment period ends, participants will be selected by computerized lottery, and the results will be announced on July 11 at 3 PM on the district office website.

The "Nowon Youth Science Camp" is for elementary school students in grades 4 to 6. From June 19 to 28, a total of 90 participants (60 general students and 30 students from socially disadvantaged families) will be recruited through the district office website.

The science camp will be held from August 6 to August 9 at the National Youth Space Center located in Goheung, Jeollanam-do, divided into two groups of 45 participants each, for 3 nights and 4 days.

Classes will be conducted through various experiential programs based on physical laws. In particular, the "Balancing and Astronaut Training" program will explore changes occurring in high-speed aircraft such as high-altitude bodily changes and 3D spatial illusions, and participants will experience balancing activities to understand the sensation of weightlessness in space.

The training activity fee for general students, including accommodation, meals, and experience fees necessary for living at the National Youth Space Center, is 206,000 KRW. Other expenses such as transportation, travel insurance, and recreation costs will be fully supported by the district for all participants, and students from socially disadvantaged families will have all costs covered by the district.

If the number of applicants exceeds the camp capacity of 90, final participants will be selected by computerized lottery, and the announcement will be made on July 9 at 3 PM on the district office website.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "We have prepared these camps so that our children, who will lead Nowon's future, can spend this summer meaningfully and safely," adding, "We will continue to provide high-quality educational programs to help reduce the private education burden on parents."
