Gyeongnam Provincial Council Ethics Committee Postpones Review of Assault Dispute Between Ruling and Opposition Lawmakers

Deciding to Wait for Police Investigation Results

The Gyeongnam Provincial Council's Special Ethics Committee has postponed its review of the physical altercation dispute between Han Sanghyun of the Democratic Party of Korea and Choi Dongwon of the People Power Party.

On the 11th, the Ethics Committee held its first closed-door meeting, summoning both parties involved to hear their respective positions and explanations.

Taking into account that a police investigation into the incident is currently underway, the committee decided to reassess whether the two council members violated ethical standards after the police investigation results are released, concluding the meeting after about an hour.

Previously, on April 17, Han filed a police complaint against Choi on charges of assault, claiming that during an on-site inspection of the Hadong cable car, Choi, who serves on the same standing committee, twisted his arm, resulting in ligament damage and an injury requiring three weeks of recovery.

In response, Choi denied Han's allegations, asserting instead that he was subjected to insulting remarks and threats. On the 3rd, Choi filed a counter-complaint against Han with the police on charges including false accusation, insult, and defamation.
