A 91-year-old Canadian billionaire has been charged with sexual assault spanning over 40 years.
According to the British daily The Guardian on the 9th (local time), Peel Regional Police in Ontario, Canada, arrested and charged Austrian-born billionaire Frank Stronach on the 7th with a total of five charges including sexual assault, forcible touching, and unlawful confinement. Police stated that Stronach is currently on conditional release and is scheduled to appear at the Brampton court in Ontario at a later date.
Stronach is accused of committing sexual assault from the 1980s until last year. Police only confirmed that there is more than one victim but did not specify the exact number of victims.
A police official said, "This case has attracted public attention," adding, "We have a duty to protect the victims. That is why we are being vague about the number of victims." The police also urged anyone with additional victims or related information to cooperate with the investigation.
Local netizens who learned of the news expressed shock. Comments included, "I can't believe he committed sexual assault over 40 years," "I hope he receives appropriate punishment even now," and "He should return his medal."
Stronach is the founder of Magna, Canada's largest auto parts company, and a recipient of the Order of Canada.
