On the 7th, the Navy announced that the RIMPAC Task Force will set sail from Jeju Civil-Military Complex Port in the afternoon. The Navy will dispatch approximately 840 Navy and Marine Corps personnel, including the Aegis destroyer ROKS Yulgok Yi I, the destroyer ROKS Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin, the landing ship ROKS Cheonjabong, the Son Won-il-class submarine ROKS Lee Beom-seok, one maritime patrol aircraft P-3, one maritime operational helicopter, and six amphibious assault vehicles (KAAVs).

RIMPAC is a multinational exercise conducted biennially under the command of the U.S. Third Fleet to enhance the protection of sea lines of communication, improve joint response capabilities to maritime threats, and increase interoperability and operational capabilities of combined forces.

This year, 29 countries including Korea, the United States, Japan, Canada, and Australia will participate with 40 surface ships, 3 submarines, over 150 aircraft, and approximately 25,000 personnel. The Korean Navy RIMPAC Task Force will, for the first time, serve as the Deputy Commander of the Combined Naval Forces Command during this exercise. They will conduct special operations training, integrated force training, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief exercises with participating countries.

Task Force Commander Colonel Moon Jong-hwa stated, "We will enhance our combined force command capabilities and joint operational execution skills to elevate the status of the Republic of Korea as a 'Strong Navy, Maritime Power' in the world's largest combined exercise."
