A defector organization distributed 200,000 leaflets aimed at North Korea in the early hours of the 6th.
The Free North Korea Movement Alliance announced on the 6th that it had distributed 200,000 leaflets using 10 ad balloons between midnight and 1 a.m. in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province.
The organization stated that along with the leaflets, USB drives containing trot music and other content were also placed in the ad balloons. It was reported that there was no police interference during the leaflet distribution process.
The Free North Korea Movement Alliance has continuously conducted leaflet distribution activities, including on the 10th of last month when it sent 300,000 leaflets and 2,000 USB drives containing K-pop and trot videos attached to 20 large balloons toward North Korea.
North Korea, which has been sensitive to leaflets aimed at it, threatened on the 26th of last month that it would respond in kind, stating, "Countless pieces of trash and filth will soon be scattered around the South Korean border areas and central regions," and from two days later, sent nearly 1,000 filth balloons to the South. It also carried out a series of complex provocations including GPS jamming attacks.
However, shortly after the government warned it would respond with "unbearable measures," North Korea issued a statement on the night of the 2nd under the name of Kim Kang-il, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of National Defense, declaring a temporary suspension of filth balloon distribution.
At that time, North Korea conditionally threatened, saying, "If South Korea resumes anti-Republic leaflets distribution, we will again intensively scatter a hundredfold amount of trash and filth according to the quantity and frequency detected."
