"Sending 5,000 Lim Young-woong USBs to North Korea"... Defector Group Retaliates Against 'Garbage Balloons'

"No Waste Dumping Even During World Wars"

The North Korean defector group, the Free Joseon Movement Alliance, announced that it will continue leaflet distribution activities toward North Korea as a countermeasure against the South Korean trash balloon dispersal.

Park Sang-hak, the representative of the Free Joseon Movement Alliance, issued a statement titled "Kim Jong-un, Apologize Immediately" on the 3rd, criticizing North Korea's trash balloon dispersal toward the South by saying, "Even during World War I and II, both sides used aerostats (balloons) to send hundreds of billions of leaflets, and South and North Korea also sent hundreds of millions of leaflets, but never dropped 'filth or garbage.'"

Park said, "The Free Joseon Movement Alliance appealed to the Korean people and Korean Americans to purchase Tylenol, vitamin C, masks, and other items, which were sent to our beloved North Korean compatriots," adding, "We sent facts and truth, love and medicine, one-dollar bills, dramas, and trot music, so how can they say we sent filth and garbage?"

He continued, "Kim Jong-un shamelessly threatened, saying 'If you send leaflets to the North, we will send 100 times more trash to the South,' which is a disgraceful extortion and threat even for a third-rate thug," criticizing, "Do they think the Republic of Korea and our people are slaves to the ruler they dominate?"

He then asked, "Why do the government and the military do nothing?" and declared, "We defectors will take action." Park expressed his determination to distribute leaflets to North Korea, saying, "Kim Jong-un sent trash to the people of the Republic of Korea, but defectors will send truth and love to the 20 million North Korean compatriots."

The Free Joseon Movement Alliance plans to release 5,000 portable storage devices (USBs) containing Korean dramas and songs by singer Lim Young-woong, along with 200,000 leaflets toward North Korea starting from the 6th. The group has continuously conducted leaflet distribution activities, including sending 300,000 leaflets and 2,000 USBs containing K-pop and trot videos attached to 20 large balloons toward North Korea on the 10th of last month.

Until this day, North Korea has sent over 1,000 trash balloons to the South and conducted GPS signal jamming attacks for five consecutive days around the northwestern islands.

On the previous day, Kim Kang-il, Vice Minister of the North Korean Ministry of Defense, stated through the Korean Central News Agency that "the act of dispersing paper beyond the border will be temporarily suspended," but warned, "If South Korea resumes the distribution of the Republic's leaflets, we will respond by intensively dispersing a hundred times the amount of paper and trash as already warned, depending on the quantity and frequency detected."
