Almost 90-Degree Turn on the Spot... Ultra-Strong Gust Pushed a 40t Airplane

Captured at an International Airport in Texas, USA
"Separated from the Jet Bridge and Moved 100m"

A passenger plane in Dallas, Texas, suddenly rotated sideways. The gusts of wind blowing in the area pushed even an aircraft weighing tens of tons.

On the 29th (local time), a video of a passenger plane at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport was shared on American social media platforms such as X. The video showed a Boeing 737-800 belonging to American Airlines detached from the jet bridge. It appeared to be nighttime, with strong rain and wind blowing. Suddenly, the Boeing aircraft quickly turned its nose in the opposite direction of the jet bridge.

The incident was caused by strong winds pushing the Boeing aircraft. After the video spread, American Airlines issued a statement explaining, "A gust of wind at 80 miles per hour (128 km/h) occurred at the airport, causing the aircraft to detach from the jet bridge and be pushed about 100 meters."

However, they added, "No one was on board the plane," and "A thorough inspection is currently underway, and any damaged parts will be repaired as necessary." The Boeing 737-800 captured in the video weighs 90,000 pounds, nearly 40 tons.

Meanwhile, due to the strong winds that day, many flight schedules in Texas were canceled. According to data from the flight-related website FlightAware, the airport canceled 135 flights and delayed 1,026 flights on that day alone.

Texas experienced gusts accompanied by lightning, and heavy rain caused flood warnings in various areas. NBC News reported on the 30th that "some roads are already saturated with rainwater." The local weather agency warned that the storm is expected to continue through the night, and after it subsides, another powerful gust of wind may strike again.
