On the 10th (local time), the governments of South Korea and the United States held the 3rd meeting of the Korea-US Cybersecurity Senior Steering Group (SSG) in San Francisco, USA, the Presidential Office announced on the 11th.

The SSG is a consultative body jointly launched in June last year by South Korea's National Security Office and the US White House National Security Council (NSC) to enable both countries to respond swiftly to global cyber threats on a national scale.

Through the SSG, the two countries are discussing continuous strengthening of cooperation in the cyber sector.

The key agenda items discussed at this meeting were 'Protection of Major Critical Infrastructure' and 'Response to Global Cyber Threats.' They reviewed the current status of working group operations related to these issues and shared major cybersecurity policy matters.

In addition, discussions were held on software supply chain security issues from an economic security perspective. The Korean delegation explained the recently announced government software supply chain security policy to the US delegation and exchanged views on cooperation encompassing the private and industrial sectors.

Earlier, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Intelligence Service announced software supply chain security guidelines on the 18th of last month.

This meeting was held about five months after the 2nd meeting held in Seoul last December. Representing South Korea was Shin Yong-seok, Cybersecurity Secretary of the National Security Office, and representing the US was Matthew Curtis, Senior Director for Cyber Policy at the NSC. Officials from intelligence, diplomacy, science and technology, defense, and investigative authorities participated.

Marking the first anniversary of the Korea-US Strategic Cybersecurity Cooperation Framework, both countries evaluated that the SSG has successfully served as a focal point for cybersecurity cooperation between the two nations.

The Presidential Office stated, "The two countries agreed on the necessity of continuously strengthening cooperation in the cybersecurity field at the 3rd Cybersecurity Senior Steering Group meeting," and added, "Going forward, we plan to maintain close cooperation on various cybersecurity issues through the SSG and its working groups."
