Unisem announced on the 10th that its consolidated sales for the first quarter reached 55.2 billion KRW, and operating profit was 4.6 billion KRW, representing increases of 6.6% and 5.2% respectively compared to the same period last year.
The growth in first-quarter performance was largely due to the recovery in the semiconductor industry and increased investments, which led to a significant rise in sales of temperature control equipment, specifically chiller equipment. Sales of chillers this quarter recorded 20.7 billion KRW, a 40.9% increase compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, sales of scrubbers amounted to 14.4 billion KRW, showing a slight decrease compared to the previous year.
From the second half of the year, performance improvement is expected due to expanded facility investments driven by the semiconductor industry's recovery and increased demand for eco-friendly products. In particular, the AI (Artificial Intelligence) boom has caused a surge in demand for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), which is expected to benefit related facility investment expansions. Since last year, Unisem has been the sole supplier of plasma-type scrubber equipment for Samsung Electronics' HBM Through Silicon Via (TSV) process.
A Unisem representative stated, “The improvement in the semiconductor industry, which is our upstream sector, and the resumption of investments by major customers led to growth in both revenue and operating profit in the first quarter. Moving forward, we will continue to enhance our core products and expand production capacity in line with the expansion of HBM facility investments and strengthening environmental regulations to sustain our growth trajectory.”
