Foreign Substance Found in 'Shikishima Bread' Loaf
Investigation Suggests It Is a Gomtwi

A foreign substance presumed to be part of a rat was found in a bread product from a Japanese bakery company, sparking controversy. Ultimately, the manufacturer decided to voluntarily recall the problematic product.

On the 8th, Japanese media such as FNN Prime Online reported that part of a rat's body was discovered in a bread product from 'Shikishima Bread,' headquartered in Higashi Ward, Nagoya City. The problematic bread was produced at a Tokyo factory. In response, the company announced it would voluntarily recall 104,000 units of products supplied to retailers, including 'Chojuku Yamagata 5-slice loaf.'

Earlier, on the 5th, the company received a report from a consumer who purchased this product, stating that there was a foreign substance in the bread. Upon investigation of the product, a black foreign object approximately 5 cm in size was found inside the bread. It was identified as part of a black rat's body, a rodent commonly seen in Japanese houses. Fortunately, as of noon on the 8th, there have been no reports of health issues or complaints from consumers who ate the product.

Shikishima Bread expressed "deep regret" and stated it would "implement thorough measures to prevent recurrence." However, Japanese netizens responded critically, saying things like "Even if they recall it, it feels unsettling," "It's strange that sensors installed in the factory did not detect the rat," "If only part of the rat was found, isn't it possible that other parts mixed into other bread products?" and "I won't buy this brand's products for a while."
