On the 1st, a photo of Han near his home in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, quickly spread on social media (SNS). It was about 20 days after he stepped down from the emergency committee on the 11th of last month, taking responsibility for the election loss. In the photo, former committee member Han is seen passing by a hamburger shop, dressed casually in a black sweatshirt and jeans, talking on the phone. He was also wearing the "favorite sneakers" he often wore during the campaign period.
A netizen named A, who posted the sighting of former committee member Han, said, "It's been a long time, former committee member Han. Even from behind, you look cute, cool, and everything." They added, "I hope to see more photos starting next week." Supporters also responded to the sighting with comments such as "I miss you," "When will you come back?" "We hope you trust the people and make a comeback," and "We are eagerly waiting for your return."
Earlier, after the election defeat, former committee member Han posted on his SNS on the 20th of last month, saying, "This is my defeat, not yours. Even with the earnestness we shared together, we could not win. I owe you all. I am sorry." He bowed his head and said, "The only people a politician must not betray are you, the people. No matter what happens, I will never betray you, the people. Efforts to correct mistakes are not betrayal but courage."
Meanwhile, former committee member Han recently ranked first in preference among People Power Party supporters in a poll for the next presidential candidate. On the 2nd, polling agency Jowon C&I conducted a survey commissioned by Straight News from April 27 to 29, targeting 2,006 men and women nationwide on the "Suitability for Next Presidential Candidate." The results showed that Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, received 39.3% support, while former committee member Han received 21.9%. The margin of error was ±2.2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, with a response rate of 2.4%.
Eyewitness reports of former committee member Han are rapidly spreading through SNS and online communities. Accordingly, some predict that next week, former committee member Han will begin behind-the-scenes moves as a next presidential candidate, starting with meetings with defeated candidates.
