Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on May 1st, Labor Day, "We will create a society where fair rewards are given in proportion to effort."
On the same day, Lee wrote on his Facebook, "I express my respect and gratitude to all workers who move the Republic of Korea while bearing their own burdens at their respective workplaces."
He pointed out, "Our labor is facing new challenges," adding, "Low growth and industrial transformation increase the risk of mass unemployment, and the number of 'workers outside labor' suffering in the blind spots of labor laws, such as platform labor and special employment, is increasing."
He emphasized, "Protecting the lives of working people is the responsibility of politics," and "We will strive to protect the rights and interests of all workers in response to the rapidly changing labor environment." He also added, "We will take step by step toward a society where all working people are respected and a country where the value of sweat is fairly rewarded."
