The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 30th that it has arrested 88 individuals, including 20 youths, through a special crackdown on cyber gambling targeting teenagers since September last year.
Among the 88 arrested in this operation, 7 were detained, and the 20 underage gamblers were referred to the guidance review committee.
All 20 underage gamblers were high school students who spent between 520,000 KRW and 5,930,000 KRW on gambling.
Mr. A, who hired teenagers as part-time workers and had them send gambling advertisement messages, was also arrested.
Mr. A is also suspected of deceiving teenagers recruited through SNS by telling them, "To receive part-time wages, you must provide your SNS account and password," and using this for further crimes.
The police have taken pre-indictment seizure measures on 1.8 billion KRW of criminal proceeds from Mr. A and other operators.
A police official urged, "Families, schools, and communities should all recognize the seriousness of youth gambling and take an active interest in preventing gambling crimes."
