Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will operate the ‘Resource Circulation Classroom with Citizens’ starting next month to promote the importance and value of resource circulation and to raise citizens’ awareness of resource saving and recycling.
Since 2020, Gwangsan-gu has trained 94 resource circulation interpreters and has been conducting resource circulation classrooms annually. These interpreters visit daycare centers, schools, and other places to educate children, adolescents, and general citizens?the future generations?on how to practice resource circulation in daily life. In 2021, 9,339 people participated in the education, 17,310 in 2022, and 16,700 in 2023.
This year, the educational content will be segmented to suit the needs of the participants. Detailed and meticulous instruction will be provided on correctly separating and disposing of items such as paper packs and transparent PET bottles. Additionally, the recently spreading zero waste process has been added.
Education using ‘board games’ will also be conducted to help participants learn the importance of resource circulation in a fun and enjoyable way.
The target audience for this year’s education consists of 65 institutions and 14,115 people who submitted applications for education from February 26 to March 15. Considering the high demand for resource circulation education, Gwangsan-gu plans to accept additional applications in the second half of the year.
A Gwangsan-gu official stated, “In the global climate crisis situation, resource circulation is an unavoidable task and duty for all of us,” adding, “We will actively strive to spread practices and efforts that prioritize a sustainable future over minor inconveniences.”
