Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) announced on the 30th that it has opened a forest trail (5.14km) this month, allowing people to walk comfortably from Muhakbong to Namsan. The entire trail is made without stairs or curbs, making it easy for strollers, wheelchairs, pregnant women, and the elderly to use. It is a place where you can reach Namsan in one go by passing through Daehyeonsan, Geumhosan, and Maebongsan.
Muhakbong, Daehyeonsan, Geumhosan, and Maebongsan were once part of Namsan. The Eungbong Eco-friendly Forest Trail connects all these mountains, restoring the original shape of the Namsan foothills into an eco-friendly walking space, enhancing its ecological and historical value.
By the end of this year, when the final section of the Eungbong Eco-friendly Forest Trail from Beotigogae Ecological Overpass to Namsan is completed, the trail will connect from Sindang-dong in the east of Jung-gu to Jungnim-dong in the west, linking the Eungbong Eco-friendly Forest Trail, Namsan Dulle-gil, and Seoul 7017, completing a single pedestrian green axis crossing Jung-gu from east to west.
The Eungbong Eco-friendly Forest Trail preserves the existing trees without removing them and adds about 60,000 plants including cherry trees, Korean pine, Deulggoengnamu (Viburnum dilatatum), shrubs, and herbaceous plants, allowing visitors to stroll through the urban forest and experience healing.
The Eungbong Eco-friendly Forest Trail includes the Daehyeonsan Reservoir Park monorail, newly opened in February, an observatory with views of Namsan Tower, Bukaksan, and Bukhansan, a barefoot clay path to feel the earth’s energy, and the Maebongsan Jung-gu Children's Forest Experience Center where cherry blossoms bloom beautifully, making walking there very enjoyable, according to Jung-gu officials.
Mayor Kim Gil-seong said, “In the past, to get to Namsan, people had to pass through a city filled with cars and buildings, but now, through the Eungbong Eco-friendly Forest Trail, anyone can comfortably ascend surrounded by flowers, trees, and birds.” He added, “We will continue to carefully monitor and improve the trail so that all residents can equally enjoy the gifts of nature.”
