Guro-gu District Office (Mayor Moon Heon-il) is introducing portable video and audio recording devices called 'body cams' for the '365 Guro Environmental Guardians,' who carry out illegal dumping crackdown duties.
The '365 Guro Environmental Guardians' consist of a total of 20 members who monitor and educate in areas with concentrated illegal dumping activities.
The illegal dumping crackdown hours include early morning and late-night shifts, during which disputes between enforcement officers and offenders sometimes occur, along with incidents of reckless verbal abuse and assault, making it necessary to establish countermeasures.
Accordingly, the district decided to introduce and operate a total of 23 body cams starting this month.
The body cams were selected considering the nature of the enforcement team's work, which involves 6 hours of night shifts per day, featuring infrared recording capability and excellent battery efficiency.
Not only is the on-site audio recorded clearly, but the recorded videos can be checked on mobile phones via Wi-Fi connection, allowing them to be used as evidence in case of incidents or when imposing fines.
Mayor Moon Heon-il of Guro-gu said, "The introduction of these body cams will enhance the credibility of illegal dumping crackdowns, benefiting both residents and staff," and added, "We will continue to do our best to protect employees from illegal acts such as verbal abuse and assault and to ensure they can work in a safe environment."
