Heo Eun-ah, chief spokesperson of the Reform New Party, declared her candidacy for party leader on the 29th, stating, "I will create a ruling party that produces the next president in the upcoming presidential election."
On the same day, Chief Spokesperson Heo held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Center and said, "I, Heo Eun-ah, confidently assert that I am the most suitable, prepared, and verified party leader for the Reform New Party's first Stove League." The Stove League refers to the period in a sports league for training players and recruiting new talent to strengthen the team for the next regular season.
She said, "We will lead the local elections to victory in two years and produce a Reform New Party president in the presidential election three years from now," adding, "I pledge to normalize all grassroots party organizations nationwide within one year of taking office as party leader. We will field candidates in all constituencies from the basic to the metropolitan level in the 2026 local elections and achieve victory."
Chief Spokesperson Heo evaluated the general election results as a foundation for growing into a ruling party. She said, "We are grateful and proud of the results, but for a better tomorrow than today, we must step back from joy and face reality," adding, "Even with three seats in the National Assembly, the Reform New Party will need cooperation from other parties to propose a single bill, and even if we draft good legislation, we will have to overcome neglect and checks from the two major parties."
She continued, "First, we must strengthen and upgrade for the three members who stepped onto the field," emphasizing, "We need abundant experience, cool-headed judgment, and more certain value investment rather than gambling investment. We must grow the Reform New Party into a financially sound blue-chip company."
The Reform New Party will elect its next party leader at the party convention on the 19th of next month. The candidates for party leader include Chief Spokesperson Heo, former Supreme Council member Lee Gi-in, Hwaseong City Councilor Jeon Seong-gyun, former Vice Chairman of the Policy Committee Cheon Gang-jeong, and former Daegu City Party Chairman Jo Dae-won, totaling five candidates.
