Master singer Lee Bong-geun unveiled new sections of ‘Seongung Yi Sun-sin Chungmugongga’ for the first time at the 63rd Seongung Yi Sun-sin Festival held at Art Valley Asan.
The creative pansori ‘Yi Sun-sin-ga’ was one of the popular creative pansoris widely sung after liberation, but after the late master singer Park Dong-jin, its transmission was discontinued and the records went out of print, causing it to be lost for a long time.
Asan City joined hands with the young singer Lee Bong-geun, who has been striving to restore the pansori ‘Yi Sun-sin-ga,’ and carried out a revival project. In November last year, on the anniversary of Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s death, the ‘Yi Sun-sin Martyrdom Festival’ premiered ‘Chungmugongga’ and ‘Battle of Hansan’ for the first time.
Then, at the ‘Seongung Yi Sun-sin Festival’ held on the 25th, ‘On the Bright Moonlit Night of Hansan Island’ and ‘Ganggangsuwollae’ were additionally performed for the first time.
In particular, ‘On the Bright Moonlit Night of Hansan Island’ was based on the sijo poem of the same name written by Admiral Yi Sun-sin, expressing the deep sorrow of Chungmugong worrying about the country, which impressed the audience.
Master singer Lee Bong-geun said, “Restoring the pansori ‘Yi Sun-sin-ga,’ which lost its lineage after master singer Park Dong-jin, and creating a new Yi Sun-sin pansori is a very honorable task as a singer and as someone who admires Admiral Yi Sun-sin,” adding, “I will continue to promote and document Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s achievements through pansori.”
Meanwhile, the relay busking event ‘Shouting Yi Sun-sin,’ where you can experience ‘Yi Sun-sin-ga,’ will be held daily at Onyang Oncheon Station Plaza until the 28th.
