Professor Cho Seung-gu of Dongmyung University (Department of Architecture) received the 'Korea Arts and Culture Award' in the architecture category.
Dongmyung University announced on the 26th that he won the grand prize at the 37th awards ceremony organized by the Korea Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organizations.
Professor Cho is serving as a member of the Presidential National Architecture Policy Committee, and has contributed to the development of private arts and culture as a director of the Busan Biennale Organizing Committee, president of the Busan Architects Association, and vice president of the Korea Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organizations Busan Federation.
Professor Cho was recognized for his contributions to architectural development by serving as the chairman of the 3rd New Town Design Competition, and as chairman in events such as the Gwangju Representative Library, Incheon Songdo Library, Korean Literature Hall (Seoul), Jinju Museum, and Gwangju Biennale construction competitions.
He has also served as chairman of the Seoul City Downtown Public Housing Complex Project Design Competition, LH Management Investment Review Committee member, Busan City Architectural Review Committee member, and Busan City Urban Planning Committee member.
Professor Cho earned a bachelor's degree in architecture from Hanyang University, a master's degree in architecture from Kansas State University in the United States, and a doctorate in architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States. After serving as dean of the College of Architecture and director of planning at Dongmyung University, he is currently the vice president of Dongmyung University.
The Korea Arts and Culture Award began in December 1987 under the name 'Arts and Culture Federation Cultural Award' and is given to outstanding artists who have made significant contributions to the development of arts and culture. The awards ceremony was held at 2 p.m. that day at the Korea Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organizations auditorium in Mok-dong, Seoul.
