Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, announced that "the ordinance for securing the safety and support of military personnel involved in disaster recovery support in Gyeonggi Province will be enacted," stating that it is the first of its kind nationwide.
Governor Kim wrote on his social media service (SNS) on the 26th, "Right after the ‘Chae Sang-byeong incident’ last July, I instructed the preparation of safety measures for military personnel providing civilian support," and added, "The ordinance was proposed through bipartisan agreement in the provincial council and passed in today’s plenary session."

원본보기 아이콘He continued, "This ordinance is the fruit of bipartisan cooperation among the youth generation, the ruling and opposition parties, and the government to prevent tragedies among young people," emphasizing, "The old practice of recklessly deploying soldiers without any safety measures under the pretext of civilian support must end."
In particular, he introduced, "Gyeonggi Province will prioritize the safety of soldiers deployed to disaster recovery sites," and added, "The province will provide support including safety education, safety experts and equipment, and injury insurance enrollment."
Furthermore, he stated, "We will carefully prepare follow-up measures before the rainy season begins this summer," and added, "Coincidentally, today is the first ‘Day of Fallen Military Personnel.’ We honor the young people who sacrificed their lives protecting the safety and lives of the people, and the country must protect the safety of soldiers who answer the nation’s call."
