Changwon City in Gyeongnam Province will grant a special one-day leave to all employees of Changwon City in celebration of Family Month this May, reflecting its respect for labor.
The special leave for all employees in May has been implemented annually since 2019 to boost employee morale with the meaning of ‘respect for labor.’ Employees can freely choose one day in May to take off, as long as it does not cause work disruptions.
This year’s leave is being granted under the special directive of Mayor Hong Nampyo of Changwon City to encourage employees who have successfully handled various important tasks such as the 22nd National Assembly election, the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, spring wildfire prevention activities, and the 50th anniversary event of Changwon National Industrial Complex.
According to the ‘Changwon City Public Officials Service Ordinance,’ the mayor may grant special leave of up to five days to public officials who have successfully completed major tasks or when necessary to boost employee morale.
Mayor Hong stated, “I hope this special leave will serve as a ‘comma’ for employees who have always diligently performed their duties behind the scenes for the citizens, allowing them to recharge with their families. We will continue to take the lead in creating a family-friendly work environment to support work-family balance for our employees.”
Meanwhile, Changwon City plans to operate various employee morale-boosting programs during Family Month in May, including watching baseball games with family and colleagues.
