Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do announced on the 26th that it has been selected for the ‘2024 Workation Activation Public Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, securing 150 million KRW in national funding.
Gochang-gun was the only area selected in Jeollabuk Special Self-Governing Province.
The county plans to remodel Sangha Farm’s ‘Farmers Village’ into various shared office hub spaces such as offices, independent rooms, and rest areas according to user purposes and convenience, based on the concept of creative ideation and co-working space.
Sangha Farm is the only successful model of the 6th industry in Korea and is recognized as the top family and couple popular experiential travel destination in the country.
It operates various seasonal and themed programs including lodging facilities, spa, swimming pool, unique food using local agricultural specialties, smart farm (strawberry harvesting and jam making), and ranch experiences (feeding calves milk, etc.).
Workation is a new work style combining work and vacation, allowing people to work while resting wherever they want.
For employees of companies and others, it is a new tourism trend and welfare model, while for regions, it is emerging as a stay-type tourism product that attracts resident populations. It is expected to boost not only tourist attraction but also regional economic revitalization.
Oh Mi-sook, Director of the Tourism Industry Division of Gochang-gun, said, “By linking the seven treasures of Gochang, a UNESCO World Heritage city, with numerous historical, cultural, and tourism resources scattered throughout the area, we expect to attract many tourists and encourage revisits.” She added, “We will further develop workation tourism hub spaces to lead stay-type tourism marketing and take the lead in overcoming the crisis of local extinction.”
