Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dongmyeong University Partners with Busan Surfing Association to Train Marine Leisure Experts

Industry-Academia Collaboration for "Safety and Innovation on the Sea"

Dongmyung University (President Jeon Ho-hwan) Department of Emergency Medical Services (Head of Department Kim Seong-ju) announced on the 26th that it signed an industry-academia cooperation agreement with the 'Busan Surfing Association' on the 25th to strengthen customized employment and start-up competency support.

The two organizations presented a future-oriented industry-academia cooperation model for fostering specialized personnel in marine sports and emergency medical services to revitalize Busan's 7 major strategic industries, including the 'global tourism industry.'

The region's representative Department of Emergency Medical Services and the Surfing Association officially formed a partnership and promised to establish a cooperative system for practical collaboration, including developing curricula for 'safety education in marine sports' and 'advancement of emergency medical techniques' as well as mutual personnel exchanges.

Shin Bo-gwan, President of the Busan Surfing Association, welcomed the agreement, saying, "This will be a significant milestone for the Busan surfing community and marine sports safety," and added, "We will make multifaceted efforts with the university to cultivate specialized personnel in the marine leisure sector."

Head of Department Kim Seong-ju said, "Through the agreement with the association, which has contributed greatly to the development of Busan's tourism industry, we will be able to provide students with practical knowledge and experience needed in the marine sports field," and added, "We expect this to be an opportunity to further strengthen the fieldwork capabilities of students preparing to become experts in emergency medical services."

Professor Kim Deok-sul emphasized, "The Department of Emergency Medical Services plans to develop an educational program that balances theory and practical training based on the mutual cooperation system with the association, linking the latest emergency medical techniques with marine sports safety education."

Established in the 2024 academic year, Dongmyung University's Department of Emergency Medical Services is the first four-year emergency medical services department in the Busan area. The department operates a customized specialized program to train first-class emergency medical technicians equipped with various practical skills in water safety and emergency treatment education linked to the local community.
