The Gwangyang-eup Community Security Council in Jeollanam-do (Public Chairman Jeong Yong-gyun, Private Chairman Heo Hyeong-chae) announced on the 24th that, under the supervision of the Gwangyang-eup Rural Hub Revitalization Project Residents' Committee (Chairman Heo Hyeong-chae), they held a launching ceremony for the visiting side dish delivery service. This service cooperates with four local volunteer organizations to provide home-cooked side dishes to 320 vulnerable households, including low-income elderly and disabled individuals.
The 'Visiting Side Dish Delivery Service' is a project that supports side dishes for vulnerable groups such as elderly and disabled people with mobility difficulties and reclusive middle-aged single-person households.
The Gwangyang-eup Customized Welfare Team identifies vulnerable groups through home visits, the Gwangyang-eup Rural Hub Revitalization Project Residents' Committee supports the purchase of side dish ingredients, and four volunteer organizations deliver home-cooked side dishes once a month for two months each, totaling eight times (April to November) to 40 households. While delivering the side dishes, they also perform the role of a human safety net by checking on the recipients' well-being.
At the launching ceremony, Heo Hyeong-chae, Chairman of the Gwangyang-eup Rural Hub Revitalization Project Residents' Committee, and representatives from four volunteer organizations (Choi Gija, President of the Gwangyang Sustainable Development Council; Seong Gyeong-hwan, Captain of the Gwangyang 112 Bicycle Volunteer Corps; Kim Mi-gyu, President of the Gwangyang Dongbaek Rotary Club; Kim Hyun-sook, President of the Gwangyang Purple Rotary Club) attended and contributed to sharing warmth in the community to support vulnerable groups.
A recipient who received side dishes from the 'Sustainable Development Council' expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you for the warm soup and side dishes you made yourself. I can have a hearty meal after a long time."
Heo Hyeong-chae, Chairman of the Gwangyang-eup Rural Hub Revitalization Project, said, "I deeply appreciate the efforts of the members of the organizations who took precious time to practice sharing by supporting side dishes for vulnerable groups," adding, "We will continue to expand support areas in various fields and do our best to improve the quality of life for local residents."
Jeong Yong-gyun, Mayor of Gwangyang-eup, said, "Many vulnerable people who have difficulty moving and live alone often skip meals or suffer from poor nutrition," and expressed deep gratitude to the representatives and members of the organizations who practiced sponsorship and volunteering for this vulnerable group side dish support.
He added, "We will continue to cooperate between the public and private sectors to discover recipients in blind spots and support welfare services, striving to spread a culture of sharing that fills the health and happiness of local residents throughout the community."
The Gwangyang-eup Rural Hub Revitalization Project Residents' Committee plans to promote not only the side dish delivery service, which was carried out last year, but also kids yoga, total crafts for youth & middle-aged, one-pyeong house building, and visiting cultural services (ocarina, gardening classes, health gymnastics). They stated that they will do their best to discover more substantial and diverse services this year to achieve sustainable development of rural areas and improve the quality of life for residents.
