Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 23rd that the "1st Jangheung Dialect Contest for Elementary, Middle, and High School Students" will be held at Jeongnamjin Jangheung Saturday Market on the 11th of next month.
Hosted by the Jangheung Cultural Center and sponsored by the Jangheung-eup Community Security Council, this contest was organized to preserve the local dialect and revitalize the Saturday market.
The "1st Jangheung Dialect Contest for Elementary, Middle, and High School Students" will be held at the Jeonnam Jangheung Saturday Market.

Elementary, middle, and high school students can participate in various genres and themes such as plays, skits, and storytelling. Applications can be submitted in person, by mail, or by email until 6 p.m. on the 25th.
The total prize money for the contest is 2.2 million KRW. Awards will be given to one winner each as follows: Grand Prize 1 million KRW, Excellence Award 500,000 KRW, Merit Award 300,000 KRW, Popularity Award 200,000 KRW, and Special Award 200,000 KRW.
Kim Myunghwan, director of the Jangheung Cultural Center, stated, "Through this event, we hope to reexamine the linguistic value of our precious local dialect and boost pride."
Bang Jiyoung, mayor of Jangheung-eup, said, "We hope this time to showcase Jangheung’s unique intonation and dialect will serve as an opportunity to preserve and pass on our language," adding, "We look forward to many participants making the Saturday market a joyful gathering place."
