Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced that it will introduce new public designs throughout the city that harmonize with the urban landscape while enhancing residents' convenience, and held the "Gangseo-gu Public Design Promotion Plan Establishment Service Kick-off Meeting" on the 22nd.

Participants at the meeting reviewed the current shortcomings of public design in Gangseo-gu and discussed the direction of future initiatives. Public design refers to the design of public facilities created, produced, installed, operated, or managed by public institutions to improve publicness and aesthetics.

The district plans to establish a five-year (2025?2029) Gangseo-gu Public Design Promotion Plan to apply consistent public design throughout the city. Universal design will be applied to public facilities such as parks and plazas, and facilities incorporating Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) will be installed in crime-vulnerable areas such as dark alleys and densely populated old residential areas.

The five-year public design plan will include detailed content such as ▲analysis of the current status of public design ▲execution strategies tailored to regional characteristics ▲annual implementation strategies.

Starting with the kick-off meeting, the district intends to accelerate systematic and high-quality project implementation by gathering diverse opinions from residents and consulting experts.

Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “We will apply the plan step-by-step through selection and concentration based on the necessity and urgency of the project,” adding, “We will carefully prepare even small parts such as facility guide signs to ensure a solid project implementation.”
