Kim Geonan, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Buk-gu Council, recently held a meeting to gather opinions from related organizations and departments for the enactment of the 'Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of Neighborhood Patrol Teams.'
The Neighborhood Patrol Teams are systems operated in each neighborhood to quickly resolve inconveniences and safety hazards closely related to residents' lives and to create a pleasant living environment. They perform roles such as reporting and suggesting resident inconveniences and other volunteer activities.
At this meeting, representatives of the Neighborhood Patrol Teams from Sinan, Usan, and Junghung neighborhoods, the president and vice president of the Buk-gu Tongban Council, the head of Munheung 1-dong, and officials from the relevant departments of Buk-gu Office attended to discuss various opinions on operational difficulties, revitalization, and systematic support for the Neighborhood Patrol Teams.
Councilor Kim stated, “It is necessary to establish a basis to increase and systematize the democratic activities of the Neighborhood Patrol Teams, which have made various efforts throughout the villages of Buk-gu for a long time.” He added, “I hope this meeting will serve as an opportunity to reduce the activity disparities among the Neighborhood Patrol Teams existing in each neighborhood and to expand the Neighborhood Patrol Teams, a distinctive project unique to Buk-gu.”
