Gumi City in Gyeongbuk actively encourages farmers to apply for and use the 'Agricultural Weather Disaster Early Warning Service' to minimize crop damage caused by climate change.
The 'Agricultural Weather Disaster Early Warning Service,' developed by the Rural Development Administration, provides weather information at the farm scale (30×30m), reflecting the farm's topographical characteristics and crop growth conditions, instead of the previous neighborhood scale (5×5 km).
Farmers can easily receive detailed weather information and disaster risk alerts for their farm address via mobile (text message, AlimTalk, web) through this service.
The service can be applied for at any time throughout the year by visiting the Agricultural Technology Center or the Agricultural Counseling Office in person to submit an application form. Starting this year, farmers can also submit their application forms online.
Kim Young-hyuk, director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “Extreme weather events have become more frequent due to the impact of climate change, causing significant crop damage. We hope farmers will definitely subscribe to this service to prepare for weather disasters in advance and actively use it to decide farming schedules.”
