Mokpo Coast Guard Launches 'SOS Rescue Button Direct Press Campaign'

"SOS Rescue Button for Sea Safety Protects Fishermen's Lives"

Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) announced on the 18th that it will conduct an ‘SOS Direct Button Press Campaign’ targeting fishing vessels equipped with location transmitters to ensure rapid rescue in emergency situations at sea.

This campaign consists of hands-on training where fishermen directly press the rescue button to help their hands remember and reflexively send rescue signals in urgent situations, along with the distribution of safety guideline materials explaining distress communication operation methods.

The campaign will be conducted periodically throughout the year as part of proactive administration to ensure safer fishing activities for fishery workers.

Rapid SOS distress signal requests during maritime emergencies are crucial for the prompt and efficient rescue operations by maritime police and other rescue agencies, ultimately saving precious lives.

Meanwhile, the danger alarm of V-Pass, an automatic vessel entry and exit reporting device, only triggers when certain conditions are met (tilt of 70 degrees, signal loss for 10 minutes).

A Mokpo Maritime Police official urged, “In emergency situations at sea, always wear a life jacket and immediately press the SOS emergency rescue button on distress signal devices such as V-Pass to ensure swift rescue.”
