'Global Busan Citizens Alliance' Launches, Urges Passage of Special Act

Support for Busan Global Hub City Development and Resolution Urging Special Law Passage in the 21st National Assembly

On the 18th at 2:30 PM, Busan City will hold the "Global Busan Citizens' Alliance Launch Ceremony" in the main conference room of City Hall.


Mayor Park Hyung-jun, City Council Chairman Ahn Seong-min, Baek Myung-gi, the standing representative of the Global Busan Citizens' Alliance, along with representatives from over 70 civic organizations and citizens will attend.


The Global Busan Citizens' Alliance is being launched to serve as a focal point for the swift passage of the "Special Act on the Creation of Busan as a Global Hub City" and to consolidate citizen support. Today's event was organized to pledge active promotion of Busan as a global hub city by more than 70 civic groups.


The representative team consists of Standing Representative Baek Myung-gi (Chairman of the National Welfare and Culture Association for the Elderly), Standing Chairman Park Seong-hwan (Director of Daedong Hospital and former Chairman of Daedong University), and co-representatives Heo Seong-hoe and Jo Young-cheol.


Today's launch ceremony is scheduled to last about 2 hours and 30 minutes, aiming to raise consensus on promoting the global hub city and confirm the enthusiasm for support.


The event will proceed with ▲appointment certificate presentation ▲congratulatory performances ▲introduction of the executive team ▲greetings and announcement of major activity plans ▲congratulatory speeches ▲chanting of slogans and commemorative photos.


Standing Representative Baek Myung-gi is expected to state, "Busan is a city with sufficient potential to leap forward as a global hub city, and we urge the passage of the 'Special Act on the Creation of Busan as a Global Hub City' within the term of the 21st National Assembly for Busan's groundbreaking development and establishment as a southern regional innovation hub city."


Mayor Park Hyung-jun expressed his welcome for the launch of the Global Busan Citizens' Alliance, saying, "The special act serves as an institutional foundation to develop Busan into an internationally competitive global hub city. It comprehensively includes provisions to make Busan an attractive city where global logistics, talent, finance, and new industries converge." He added, "I deeply appreciate the enthusiasm of the citizens who have united to realize related policies such as the passage of the special act," and stated, "We will ensure active participation of civil society throughout the policy implementation process and reflect diverse opinions."


The "Special Act on the Creation of Busan as a Global Hub City" aims to establish Busan, a key city in the southern region, as a global central city and develop it alongside the metropolitan area as one of the two major pillars of South Korea's development by providing an institutional foundation.


It includes provisions for designation of special zones and districts and special measures to develop Busan into a city with international competitiveness in logistics, finance, digital, and advanced industries, as well as contents related to education, living, and the creation of a global culture and tourism environment.


The city completed interdepartmental consultations last March and is preparing to respond to the National Assembly's bill review process.
