The number of foreign visitors to Japan in March this year exceeded 3 million for the first time on a monthly basis, with Korean visitors ranking first overall.

원본보기 아이콘According to the statistics on foreign visitors to Japan in March released by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) on the 17th, a total of 3,081,600 foreigners visited Japan last month. This is the first time the monthly figure has surpassed 3 million, setting a record high. The previous monthly record was 2,991,200 in July 2019.
Among the foreign visitors to Japan last month, Koreans ranked first with 663,100 visitors, followed by Taiwan (484,400) and China (452,400). Among the 25.07 million foreigners who visited Japan last year, Koreans accounted for the largest share at 28%, totaling 6.96 million.
In January this year, the number of Koreans visiting Japan also set a monthly record high at 857,000, and in February, 818,500 Koreans visited, ranking first by nationality.
With the weak yen and an increase in foreign tourists, the spending on accommodation and shopping by foreigners in Japan from January to March this year was 1.7505 trillion yen (approximately 15.69 trillion won), marking a record high for a quarterly period.
