The 13th Homigot Dolmuno Festival, aimed at promoting Homigot in Pohang, the largest octopus production area in Korea, and expanding the consumption of the local specialty, stone octopus, will be held on the 20th and 21st at Homigot Sunrise Plaza.
Located at the easternmost tip of the Korean Peninsula, Pohang Homigot is well known as the place where the sun rises first. The area is characterized by strong currents caused by the convergence of cold and warm currents and a complex terrain of black rocks. The 'Homigot Dolmuno' produced here is distinct from other octopuses, being chewy and highly elastic, resulting in excellent taste.
Additionally, Homigot Dolmuno contains about 34% taurine, which is effective for vision recovery and anemia prevention, and is also known to be excellent for enhancing physical strength.
This festival features various events that tourists can participate in, including a live octopus surprise auction show, a live octopus catching experience held in front of Pohang Homigot’s landmark ‘Hands of Coexistence,’ and a stone octopus singing contest.
Alongside this, visitors can enjoy the final waves of blooming canola flowers in the 150,000-pyeong canola flower field near Homigot Sunrise Plaza, where the festival takes place.
The festival will also draw attention with a performance by the Homigot daycare center during the opening ceremony. Amid the serious crisis of aging and population decline in fishing villages, the daycare children will perform a stone octopus rhythmic dance and conduct a campaign.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “Recently, fisheries and fishing villages have faced many difficulties due to climate change, rising oil prices, and population decline. Through this festival, I hope to promote the excellence of Homigot Dolmuno and contribute to stabilizing the management of local fishermen by revitalizing the regional economy.”
