Future Changes in Wolgye Area Accelerated by Gwangwoon Univ. Station District Development
On the 11th, Nowon-gu Signed a Business Agreement with Dongbu Construction, GTX-C Section 2 Project Operator
Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced the official beginning of the GTX (Greater Seoul Metropolitan Area Express Train) era aimed at bridging transportation gaps between regions by hosting the groundbreaking ceremony.
The groundbreaking event, held at 4 p.m. on the 19th at Gwangwoon University Station Plaza, will invite about 500 key local figures and residents to report on the progress of the project so far, watch a GTX-C themed video, and then proceed with a commemorative groundbreaking performance.
The connection of the GTX line to Gwangwoon University Station, which currently serves as a stop for Subway Line 1 and the Gyeongchun Line, holds great significance for the development of this area. This is because the approximately 15,000㎡ Gwangwoon University Station area, formerly a logistics site, is undergoing a redevelopment project to be reborn as a premium residential complex up to 49 floors high, along with commercial and office facilities.
Through the station area development project starting this year, 17 public contribution facilities including cultural complex facilities will be established in addition to housing and commercial complexes. Along with this, the Gyeongchun Line forest trail will be extended, and pedestrian and road improvements will be carried out simultaneously.
As Nowon-gu’s status as a new economic hub rises, the living conditions of nearby residents are expected to improve significantly, raising the expectations of residents in the Wolgye area day by day.
On the 11th, the district held the 'GTX-C Line Groundbreaking Ceremony' with Dongbu Construction, the builder of GTX-C Section 2, pledging cooperation for the early opening and successful progress of the project.
The GTX-C line, which is being started now, covers a total distance of 86.46 km from Deokjeong Station in Yangju to Suwon Station, with Gwangwoon University Station passing through the Nowon-gu area among the 14 stations.
When this line opens in 2028, it will take 9 minutes from Gwangwoon University Station to Samsung Station and 33 minutes to Suwon Station, significantly improving access from the northeastern metropolitan area to Gangnam and southern Gyeonggi Province.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, “Expanding the metropolitan transportation network is essential for Nowon-gu to leap from the outskirts of Seoul to become the central city of the northeastern metropolitan area. We will do our best to advance the region’s new future, including the GTX and the Gwangwoon University Station area development.”
