Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced the opening of a newly created 80-meter barefoot dirt path walking trail at Hana-reum Children's Park in Sinwol 2-dong (Sinwol 2-dong 605), which had been left unattended for a long time due to delays in the redevelopment project and raised concerns about becoming a crime-prone area.

The recently refurbished Hana-reum Children's Park was a site where the park's designation was abolished following the announcement of the Sinjeong 1-3 district redevelopment project in 2009, and since 2020, even the park facilities had been removed. However, due to delays in the redevelopment project, illegal dumping occurred on the desolate park site, causing foul odors and harmful environmental conditions, which led to ongoing security concerns and inconvenience complaints from nearby residents.

In response, considering that it will take a considerable amount of time until the redevelopment project gets back on track, the district decided to urgently refurbish the park as a resting place for residents for about two months starting from February and to manage and operate it temporarily until the project normalizes.

To this end, the district removed all accumulated trash throughout the park and recently transformed the central open space, which was previously used as a children's play area, into a "barefoot dirt path walking trail," a health-promoting resting spot beloved by the public.

The dirt path walking trail was constructed by mixing highly absorbent and stable loam and yellow soil, making full use of leftover spaces to create an 80-meter circular course. Around the walking trail, trees such as Suhocho and Namcheon were planted to add freshness, and new storage cabinets for shoes, benches, and usage information boards were installed for barefoot users.

Additionally, old floor pavement was replaced, and tree pruning and stair maintenance work were carried out simultaneously.

The district plans to create and refurbish a total of 20 barefoot dirt paths totaling 3.7 km throughout the district by 2025. This year, four locations have been refurbished so far, including Anyangcheon (No. 1 and 2), Mokdong Majung Forest (No. 3), and Hana-reum Park, and by the end of the year, new dirt paths will be created at 12 locations including Yongwangsan Park Reservoir, Gomdallae Park, Hanul Park, and Mokma Park.

Along with this, a total of 1.3 km sections where residents voluntarily practice barefoot walking?such as Gyenam 1 Park (north side of the gymnasium and south side of the spring), Gyenam 2 Park, Galsan Park, Yongwangsan Park (second summit and north side of Bongaksa Temple), and Dalmaeul Park?will also be comfortably refurbished.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “We are reopening Hana-reum Children's Park, which had been neglected due to redevelopment delays, as a healthy resting place for local residents. We will carefully manage it to keep it clean and pleasant until the redevelopment project resumes, and we will continue to strive to create a living environment that promotes healthy leisure activities for our residents.”
